The city of Auburn Hills, Michigan, less than three hours away from Van Andel and Flikkema Chrysler Jeep, Grand Rapids used car dealer, has just received a very exciting delivery. Four Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) Chrysler Town and Country minivans from Chrysler Group LLC have arrived. The vehicles are a part of a two-year demonstration project between the Chrysler Group and the U.S. Department on Energy.

The plug-in Chrysler Town and Country is the first and only minivan to boast plug-in hybrid powertrain in combination with flex fuel technology. While there are only 25 of these test vehicles currently created, a plug-in hybrid version of the Chrysler Town and Country may be available for consumer purchase sometime in the future. In the meantime, the City of Auburn Hills employees will be among the lucky few to have the opportunity to test these innovative minivans.

Approximately 16,800 miles will be driven on each vehicle. Between uses, the plug-in hybrid can be charged at a Level II EVSE charging station, which will be available in the town’s Civic Center Campus. Charging stations will remain in the city following completion of the project. Auburn Hills was Michigan’s first municipality to adopt an electric vehicle infrastructure ordinance to facilitate the installation of electric vehicle charging stations.

While the plug-in hybrid version of the Chrysler Town and Country is not yet available for purchase, other varieties of this favorite family hauler are currently on the market. Jeep has announced they will produce three new, limited-edition vehicles, available for purchase at dealerships such as, Van Andel and Flikkema Chrysler Jeep.

The limited-edition vehicles, which will be known as the “Altitude” models will be available in versions of the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Compass, and Patriot. Jeep’s decision to execute the production of these fan favorites was the result of the concept and “Name My Ride” contest. Well over 100,000 consumers entered the “Name My Ride” contest and determined “Altitude” as the winning name for these “blacked-out” vehicles.

All three Altitude models will sport a “blacked-out” look. A glossy black grille for the Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude and 18-inch black wheels for the Jeep Compass Altitude are just some the touches drivers can expect from these sharp looking vehicles. While the three Altitude models will sport features unique to the Altitude name, they will retain their individual identities.

The international auto show will continue through March 18th and will feature first looks of new models, set to hit dealerships in the upcoming years. Vehicles will be eligible for certification if they are model year 2008 and newer and have less than 48,000 miles.
